Your little bouncing bundle of joy will soon be a crawling adventurer. Before they begin to explore your home or are even born, you need to make sure that everything is in order. Baby-proofing your home is the perfect way to make sure your child will have a safe growing environment. Here are six simple steps to baby-proofing your home.

  1. Get down on your knees and crawl all around your house hold– or make your hubby do it. Anything you can reach will on your hands and knees is definitely in baby’s reach. Move anything that can fall from above or that can be pulled on from below.
  2. Remove anything that baby can get tangled up in. Cords, curtains and cables are all hazardous to the new baby. Tie them up or run them across the top of furniture safely.
  3. Install childproof locks on all lower cabinet doors and drawers. If it can be opened, it needs a lock. Note: this includes the broiler under the stove.
  4. Secure shelves and any other furniture that could possibly tip over. Nail it to the wall or get shorter furniture.
  5. Move all collectibles, statues, books and other items you care about to higher shelves. Line the bottom shelves with toys and stuffed animals for baby to play with.
  6. Last but not least, cover all corners with foam. Get medium density foam and cut it into strips. Tape the strips to the tables edges and other corners then decorate it with lace or a table cloth for disguise.
